MY ROLE

UI/UX Designer

Introduction

EstateIQ is one of Africa Estate management solution startup for gated communities, which empowers small and medium-sized Estates security in the digital economy. EstateIQ key offering includes Automated bills payment, Access Control, Rapid Emergency services and other offers.

In this project, I revamped the user experience and redesigned the UI,

which is one of the largest projects at EstateIQ since 2020.

My Role

I lead design for this project. I collaborated with Engineers (Makinde, Favour) and product managers (Olaitan) throughout this project.

Problem

Since 2020, EsteteIQ app experience had not been changed. Here are the key problems with the core experience.

Defining the problem

Goal

A delightful, consistent user experience

To ensure a proper design system is in place to reduce technical debt, and

give our users a better, consistent experience.

Operational efficiency

To optimize internal operations, I built scalable design components,

which will work across IQ Pay, Onboarding & Services.

Impact

As this is a huge project, I released the new designs in phases. For

confidentiality reasons I have omitted the actual values for these metrics.

Our Users

Before i started designing, a deep dive into existing behavioral and use data of our users to understand them better. I also conducted a series of customer interviews.

I focused on identifying feature and task completion timing of each user while interact with the product.

I defined 4 user types, and mapped them to their respective users.

Process

Design Sprint

I conducted design sprints to facilitate collaboration across cross-departments. Product Designer, Product Manager, and Engineers contributing their ideas in this sprint. The purpose of these sprints was to align everyone on the same goal.

User Flow

I mapped out the flow to clearly define the user journey through the app. The flows were defined into three groups:- Admin, Resident, and Security.

Usability Testing & Customer Interviews

To validate my designs, i did guerrilla testing with real users, in-person.

I performed a prototype with 20+ people in a controlled environment as well as the guerilla way.

Final Design

Here's a detailed walkthrough of the revamped app.

new Look. Easy Navigation.

Before the redesign, the UI was clustered, it lacked focus on EstateIQ's core Features. Now, EstateIQ has a fresh new modern look and a better experience. To improve the brand and product perception, I introduced new, scalable components, redesigned micro-interactions, and repositioned the product.

Introduction of the Flun Design System

Flun is a scalable design system that saves time and reduces technical debt. It solves the problem of inconsistent components and user experience.

Flun has over 80+ components with properly defined typography styles,

icons, images and illustrations. Everything in the app is made up of these modular components—this gives a unified, consistent, robust UI.,

The design system isn’t final. It will evolves as we go.

Using Admin as our example

Dashboard is personalized

All data they see is now more personalized and relevant. I collaborated with the project manager and engineering team to implement full personalization of the user experience to show users data based on past and present actions and tasks.

Command Center: Amplify Peace of Mind

A comprehensive tool that empowers admin with structured data. With this feature, the admin can efficiently manage access and control of the premises.

Power of Connection: Your Personal Oasis

Designed to revolutionize the way residents communicate and collaborate. Staying informed about important announcements, upcoming events, and community updates through real-time notifications.

Journey Journal: Unveiling and Discoveries

A hub for monitoring and tracking all activities. Staying in control and gaining valuable insights, every action is meticulously recorded and used to make data-driven decisions.

Improved Transactions page

To improve the payment experience, we adopted an automated collection system. Alongside a third-party alternative, Collections are set up and automated to collect based on user tags and reduce manual work.

Utilization Spread

Crafted for effortless management and monitoring of essential utilities. Track consumption patterns, detect anomalies, and generate comprehensive reports to identify potential areas for optimization and cost savings.

Designed for Complains: The Resolve

Making communication more prominent, we simplified actions. Based on feedback, extra attention was given to improving actions and navigation.

What I learned

Adaptive to the user behaviour

We needed to stay grounded and focused on the goal, but also account for changes to the product to match the changed behavior of customers during the pandemic.

during the pandemic.

Products can’t be isolated

With a user experience revamp, If we hadn't collaborated as a team, listened to each other's concerns, and evolved the tools they worked with, our beautiful app would look nice only as a prototype.

Take it one phase at a time

I learned to break down complicated designs into small, manageable

chunks. This helps ease development and handles bugs as we go along.

Future

Bug fixes

Even though we have already fixed plenty of bugs, there are bound to be minor bugs.

Post-launch optimization

This is crucial for improvement, With informed, actionable insights, we would be able to design a better

experience for our users.

Continue better design experience

To follow through our product roadmap and stick to the design system.

This has been one of many proud contribution at EstateIQ. Couldn't have done so without the amazing team at EstateIQ! Huge kudos to the team.

Thank you for reading through! Hope you enjoyed learning about my design

and thought process. :)
