The Brand
Afrigo is a Nigerian fintech and payment card brand developed to strengthen the country's domestic payment ecosystem. It provides secure, affordable, and locally processed debit, prepaid, and credit card solutions for consumers, businesses, financial institutions, and government organizations. Rather than relying solely on international card schemes, Afrigo enables transactions to be processed within Nigeria, helping reduce transaction costs, improve payment efficiency, and support the country's digital economy.
The Product
Unlike international payment cards, the Afrigo Card processes transactions primarily within Nigeria, rethink the entire web experience to build trust, clearly communicate value, and create a frictionless path to conversion. The result is a vibrant, modern platform currently in staging
The challenge
This case study focuses on redesigning the Afrigo website to better communicate the brand's value, improve usability, and create a modern digital experience for consumers, financial institutions, merchants, and partners. The existing website suffered from outdated visuals, inconsistent information architecture, and complex navigation, making it difficult for users to understand Afrigo's products, access relevant resources, and complete key tasks efficiently.
As the Product Designer on Afrigo, I was responsible for the end-to-end design process, from stakeholder interviews and UX audits to information architecture, wireframing, high-fidelity UI design, prototyping, and usability testing. I also partnered with engineering to ensure design feasibility, maintained consistency through a scalable design system, and delivered a responsive experience optimized for both desktop and mobile users.
New UI
Old UI
Problem
The old website felt cluttered, had an outdated color palette, lacked clear hierarchy, and wasn't fully optimized for mobile devices, which resulted in a drop-off in user engagement.
Goal
Modernize the brand language, improve accessibility, structure content for better readability, and implement a scalable component system for future growth.
Impact
A completely overhauled UI with a crisp, geometric typography system, generous whitespace, energetic accent colors, and engaging micro-interactions.

Under the Hood
The redesign wasn't just a fresh coat of paint. We fundamentally re-engineered how users interact with the brand.
Mobile-First Responsiveness
Recognizing that 70%+ of the traffic comes from mobile devices, the new Afrigo website was built strictly mobile-first. Navigation patterns, touch targets, and typography scale perfectly across viewports.

Component-Driven Design System
To ensure consistency across the marketing site and future product portals, we created a robust design system in Figma. Reusable buttons, form fields, and cards ensure rapid development and visual cohesion.
Streamlined Payment Flows
Afrigo core product its payment gateway was redesigned to feel secure and instantaneous. We utilized animated mockups to demonstrate exactly how the product works without requiring a signup.

Key Learnings & Reflections
One of the biggest lessons was the importance of designing for trust. Since Afrigo introduced a new domestic payment card scheme into a market familiar with established international brands, every interaction needed to communicate reliability, security, and simplicity. Clear information architecture, consistent visual patterns, and straightforward user journeys played a significant role in building user confidence.
